“do personality traits influence an individual’s motivation?”
Personalities are pretty complex so many different ones and variations even among the famous personality tests like Briggs Myers. which is a test I think most of us have taking and got results such a mine is an INTJ it is used by many companies, sociologists and psychologists to asses ones personality and used to find where you may fit in a spectrum of personality along many spectrums that are all represented by a letter in the score (Cherry, K. 2004). Then there are the personality traits that were member as OCEAN but called the 5 point theory of personality Openness to new ideas, Conscientiousness and self-aware of oneself extrovert or how willing you are to be bold and take risks. Agreeableness how open are you to compromise and making deals and finally how neurotic one is or how emotionally unstable you are. Further research into the five point theory seems it’s applicable between different cultures therefore universal and according to many psychologists they also have biological origins. So they are both universal and naturally biological. (Cherry, K. 2016)
“The old Myths”
The old myths and we have seen examples of both which is observable but contradictory are we attracted to people exactly us in romance or friendships or as the other saying goes do opposites attract? We have all seen examples of both of those dynamics and sometimes they work and sometimes they do not. I like to joke about my personality I say about myself "I am only attracted to people I cannot stand to be around." which applies to my romantic needs and friends since I like to argue and discuss things with people vigorously. I need someone to share my similar interest but not be identical with me to agree with me all the time. With two of me in one place I would annoy myself to death.
What unique individual traits are related to motivation?
The Personality traits I think are most influential are towards motivation would be the openness to new ideas which motivates us to change the scenery try something different experiment or create. Being conscientious of one’s own self also helps motivate us because it allows us to know our weaknesses’ as well as our strengths and how to use them to motivate us towards our goals. Being agreeable may help us seek people who can assist us in reaching our goals as well as being able to make deals and accomplish things that we cannot do on our own or alone.
Conclusion
Some of the personality traits we think of are they funny? Do they have some good points or leadership qualities? Would I get along with this person based on what I know about them? Are there interests similar to mine? These are what motivate me to make a connection. and sometimes it works out perfectly and sometimes it doesn’t , for example I get along with all my friends because what connects us is a key similarity to me but some of my friends do not connect with my other friends because they aren’t similar to each other, Personality is a very complex soup of various factors and levels of traits. It also includes what arouses our interests are biological motivations and how they interact with other personalities, those and the positive or negative effect of how we will interact with them. Then using Maslow hierarchy traits how well this other personality will full my personal pyramid of needs. Jon Hall explains: “We have a lot of young people in the office then there is also the personality difference among the different generations of workers. People’s perceptions and even personalities are different when they are 20 and even more so when they become 60 or even having a 20 year old interact with a 60 year old all ties into being aware of all these personality traits of yourself and others. Sizing things up. The above findings reveal a differing perception that generational differences do exist and are likely to impact working attitudes – rightly or wrongly”( Gautier, C. 2015).
